Sofya Kokareva from Penza won goldof the European Youth Chess Championship. The competition was held from 6 to 14 November 2022 in Antalya.

A young chess player from Penza showed a 100% result among girls under 8 years old, winning 9 games out of 9. Sofya beat the silver medalist by 2 points.

The 2nd place was taken by an athlete from England, Zoya Veselov with a score of 7 points. Lila Rzadkowska from Poland took third place with a score of 6.5 points.
Sofya is coached Dmitry Kokarev, an international grandmaster from Penza.

In total, about 1,000 chess players took part in the championship, among them 73 Russians who performed under the FIDE flag.
