From January 20 to 22, 2023, Ulyanovsk hosted the Volga Federal District Athletics Championship among boys and girls under 18, and juniors under 20.
Victoria Trifonova took 3rd place in the 400 m distance among girls under 18. Angelina Kosynkina became the best at the distances of 60 and 200 m among juniors under 20 years old. Victoria and Angelina are pupils of sports school No. 6 in Penza. They are coached by Roman Krasnov and Kristina Krasnova.
Another student of secondary school No. 6 Liliya Zaitseva won bronze medals at distances of 200 m and 400 m among juniors under 20. Liliya's coach is Andrey Zinukov.
Gleb Kulikov, an athlete of the regional Olympic sports school, won gold in the 1500 m race and finished second in the 2000 m hurdles among juniors under 20. The athlete's coach is Denis Bashkirtsev.
