On January 30, 2023, the Russian diving championship started in Penza. The first major diving competition of 2023 was opened by the Chief Federal Inspector for the Penza Oblast – Sergey Shchetkin, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Penza Oblast Evgeniya Bochkareva, President of the Russian Diving Federation Stanislav Druzhinin, and President of the Diving Federation of the Penza Region and Olympic champion Igor Lukashin.
"It is an honor for us to hold competitions of such a high level. We thank the Russian Diving Federation and Stanislav Druzhinin for their trust. Let those strongest athletes defend the honor of the Russian Federation at the world level. And our honored guests – Olympic champions – show by their example how to love this wonderful sport.", – said Evgeniya Bochkareva.
"I thank the government of the Penza Oblast and personally the Governor Oleg Melnichenko, the Minister of Sports Evgeniya Bochkareva, the office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Volga Federal District, and the administration of Penza for assistance, and for giving us the opportunity to hold our competitions here. We love to come to Penza, because they love diving here. In Penza, they know how to raise both Russian champions, and international champions. I wish the athletes endurance, will and faith in themselves, and victory," Stanislav Druzhinin said.
The strongest athletes of the country take part in the competitions. From Penza Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ivan Karpov, Artem Levin, Timur Haile Mariam, Evgeniya Timakova, Igor Myalin, Alina Arefyeva, Polina Saekova, Aleksandra Bibikina, and Valeria Shabanova, students of the Olympic sports school, are competing for medals.
Within a few days, the participants will perform on the meter and three-meter springboards, show their skills in tower jumping, in synchronized jumps from a three-meter springboard and a tower, and in mixed synchronized jumps from a three-meter springboard and a tower. The competition will last until February 3.
