From February 22 to 26, 2023, the All-Russian karate tournament was held in the city of Odintsovo. This competition tests the athletes' strength before the Championship of Russia.  In 2023, more than a thousand athletes from 37 regions, including the Penza Oblast, participated in competitions in Odintsovo.
As part of the regional team, Vityaz Sports School students took part in the competition. Athletes won 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 1 bronze medal.
Evgeny Larionov and Polina Zimina became winners among juniors aged 16-17 in the kumite (duel) division. In addition, Evgeny became third in judo-kumite.
Rafael Abuzyarov won gold among juniors 18-20 years old.
Sergey Malyshev won silver in the absolute weight category.
Valeria Pilipenko won two silver medals among women in the weight category up to 70 kg and in team competitions.
The athletes are coached by Aleksandr Burmentiev.
The athletes of the Penza Oblast are going to participate in All-Russian competitions in Cheboksary and the VFD championship in Saratov. After that, the best athletes will partake in the Russian Championship, which will be held in early April, and the Cup of Russia, which is scheduled for May 2023.
